A Message from Fr Dan: The Light of Easter:

Published on May 7, 2026

We are very fortunate to enjoy a quality of life that would have been hard to imagine just a few generations ago. We have more than enough in material terms, and modern communication has made the world feel much smaller. Scientific and technological progress has changed how we live in so many ways.

And yet, the deeper problems of life and how people relate to one another, are still with us. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is a reminder of how fragile peace can be. At the same time, the cost of living and worries about the future are real concerns for everyone. Material things can easily take centre stage, while the values that sustained earlier generations seem to be slipping away.

Because of this, more people are struggling with stress and depression. Many find it hard to speak about what they’re going through and end up suffering in silence. Simply sharing a worry with someone can make a big difference. Often, having someone who will listen is the first step towards feeling better.

The Easter season reminds us of hope. As summer approaches, there is a chance to slow down and spend time with God. We are invited to be still. In nature, we can come to know God as Creator, just as Jesus often went off to quiet places to pray. He also encouraged people to “go into your room, close the door and pray.”

We can find God in the ordinary moments of each day, but we often experience Him more deeply when we pause, step back from the busyness, and allow ourselves some quiet time in prayer.
