Love – George Herbert

Love welcomed me, but I hesitated,
aware of my faults, my mistakes, my failures.

And yet Love did not turn away.
Love noticed my hesitation,
and gently came closer,
as if to say, “Is something missing?”

I said, “I’m not really the kind of person who belongs here.”

Love replied, “You are welcome here.”

I said, “But I’m not good enough… I can’t even look at You.”

And Love simply answered,
“Who gave you the ability to see at all?”

I said, “Lord, I’ve made a mess of things. I don’t deserve this.”

And Love said,
“Do you not know who carried that burden for you?”

I said quietly, “Then let me try to make it right… let me serve.”

But Love said,
“No,  just sit with Me. Stay here. Receive what I give you.”

So, I sat down.
And I was welcomed.
